Spring Recital

The required spring recital is set for Monday, May 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene. Students will each perform one memorized piece and either an improvisation or a duet with another student.

We will also be having the KeyNote awards ceremony directly following the recital. Awards for Festival, Guild, KeyNote points, and Perfect Practice Logs will be distributed. And don’t forget about the announcement of the Outstanding Pianist winner!

Summer Music Lessons

It’s time to register for summer music lessons! I have not always offered lessons during the summer but have decided to do so this year. You can take piano lessons, band lessons, or learn a new instrument! Beginners and advanced students welcome.

Registration closes May 25 and time-slots are first-come first-served.

• It’s your last chance to earn KN points! So work hard and get the last few to earn the highest award you can!

April Explorer

Be sure to grab an Explorer before you leave your lesson this week, because they must be completed by your next lesson to earn a KN point.

Students in K-4 can complete any or all of the following to earn a KN point:

• Read pgs. 2-3 and tell me your favorite part of the Schumann story.
• Pg. 4: Listen to funny musicians at peforkids.
• Pg. 6-7: Complete the interval AND the subdominant/dominant exercises.
• Pg. 15: Complete the quiz.

Students in grades 5-12 can complete any or all of the following to earn a KN point:

• Pg. 8-9: Learn the composition by your next lesson.
• Pg. 10:  Practice the pedal exercise at the bottom of the page and play it for me in your next lesson.
• Pg. 13: Listen to 2 of the pieces listed in the Listening Corner at peforkids.
• Pg. 15: Complete the quiz.

Also this week:

• Students participating in Guild will be assigned specific audition times later this month.
• Consider taking summer lessons! Registration will be out this month.

The only event this month is the sign-up deadline for the SDMTA competition in the fall.  This year’s competition will be held in Brookings, SD.

• Workshop (at the farm) 4:15-5:15. Attending:  Teagan, Evan, Grace, and Avery.
• Make up lessons for Teagan and Evan 5:15-6:15

Tuesday

• Workshop (at the Opera House) 4:00-5:00. Attending:  Desa, Madi, Chelsey, Miranda, Marissa, Tristan, Sofia, Liana, Logan, Wren, Connor
• Make up lesson for Chelsey 5:00-5:30.

Wednesday

• Make-up Workshop for Emily, Calli, Caleb, and Taylor 3:45-4:45.
• Make up lesson for Calli 4:45-5:15

Bills are due next week.
