Please take a Piano Explorer from the desk and complete one project from your age group below.  Remember that you will only get a KN point next week for January’s magazine.  Notice the alternate option for all students at the bottom.  Happy reading!

Age 6 and under (with the help of parent):

  • Make up a theme and variation using the guidelines on p. 9 (no need to write it down) -OR-
  • Draw a picture in your notebook of your favorite part of the Liszt story pp. 2-3

Age 7-10:

  • Practice the “Fun Exercise” on p. 11 with one piece and demonstrate in your next lesson – OR –
  • Listen to one of the famous variations listed on p. 9 at peforkids.com and write about it in your notebook  – OR –
  • Complete quiz on p. 15

Age 11-13:

  • Complete the Word Scramble on p. 5  – OR-
  • “Liszten” to one of the pieces listed on the bottom of p. 8 at peforkids.com and write about it in your notebook – OR –
  • Learn a D Major scale and its relative harmonic minor scale using p. 4 as a guide (to figure out the relative minor you may have to refer back to December’s magazine).

Age 14 and up:

  • Learn one piece from pp. 6-7 – you must be able to play the entire piece with few mistakes and much musicality by your next lesson. -OR-
  • “Liszten” to two pieces listed on the bottom of p. 8 at peforkids.com and write about them in your notebook. – OR –
  • Learn the A Major and F Major scales as well as their relative harmonic minor scales using the guidelines on p. 4.

ALL STUDENTS:

  • Another option to earn this week’s KN point is on pp. 12-13.  Read through the rules and create a composition using the guidelines.  I will help you if you are interested in submitting it for the contest.  If you get published you’ll get an extra KN point!
